Disaster struck at the piste on 24th November 2024 when the river overflowed its banks. Nigel, POD, Dave and Paul went to assess the damage.
Our chairman didn’t waste any time, securing wood which was in danger of floating away.
The next day, the water had subsided and plans to revamp the pistes were afoot.
We had offers of supplies and lots of offers of help, together with some design suggestions for a new clubhouse!
By Sunday 1st December, less than a week later, the committee had a plan. We called on all members who were available to let us know how they could help:
Paul Jeremy and John Griffiths met on Monday 2nd to fix the wood in place to allow for work to start
On Wednesday 4th, more than 20 Members gathered, armed with shovels and wheelbarrows to clear the mud.
The mud was cleared and moved to begin to establish a bund next to the river. We are hoping this may help to assist with future minor flood prevention, a work in progress!
The working party was starting to disperse when the fire brigade arrived to give the rowing club car park a wash down.
Then the gravel arrived.
Huge thanks to the whole team, those who helped, both today and previously, to ensure we can all resume play asap:
Nigel, POD, Dave, Paul, John, Rob, Daz, Dan, Kevin, Frankie, Dennis, Pat, Ian, Wayne, Gail, Sarah, Angie, Alec, Cyril, Ben, Jeff, Ian, Gideon. If I missed anyone, apologies, I had to leave early to head to work, missing much of the heavy lifting, and the donuts 🙁
We are looking forward to a festive reopening celebration ASAP We have had to cancel Sunday 8th Christmas celebration due to storm Darragh. Watch this space.
