Safeguarding

CoLPC  believes everyone has the right to live free from abuse or neglect regardless of age, ability or disability, sex, race, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, marital or gender status.    We are  committed to creating and maintaining a safe and positive environment and an open, listening culture where people feel able to share concerns without fear of retribution.  As a members’ club, we acknowledge that safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility and we are committed to prevent abuse and neglect through safeguarding the welfare of all adults and minors involved in the game.

A  young person or vulnerable adult accepted for membership, or playing as a guest, shall not attend the Club unless accompanied by the parent, other family member or a nominated adult(s) who is also a Member or guest.  The parent, other family member or nominated adult(s) shall be responsible for the safeguarding of the young person(s) or vulnerable adult(s) and shall complete and sign the safeguarding declaration issued by the Club.

In Wales an adult is at risk if:

(Social Services and Well Being Act 2014) An adult at risk is an individual aged 18 years and over who: a) is experiencing or is at risk of abuse or neglect, AND; b) has needs for care and support (whether or not the authority is meeting any of those needs) AND: c) as a result of those needs is unable to protect himself or herself against the abuse or neglect.

The Club and its playing area is accessible for people with any disability which is compatible with the playing of the sport of pétanque. This includes wheelchair users, children and vulnerable adults.   The Club does not have any Members who are DBS cleared in respect of Club activities  Attendance at the Club is voluntary and not a constant and, therefore, the Club cannot guarantee that any DBS cleared Members would be present at all times. As a consequence the Club cannot provide any specialised services for the supervision or safeguarding of young people or vulnerable adults.  No young person or vulnerable adult shall be accepted for membership (which shall include renewal of membership) unless a suitable adult accompanies them at all times when they are present at the club.  All members will strive to ensure that this will always be the case to ensure that playing is conducted securely.

In the case of membership, a parent, other family member or a nominated adult can be  accepted for membership.  In the case of a guest(s), there shall be a nominated adult(s).

Safeguarding legislation includes the following types of abuse:

• Physical

• Sexual

• Psychological

 • Neglect

• Financial

It is beholden on all members of the club to be aware of these and adhere to making the club a welcoming and safe place for all to play in.
